    What is Mango Lassi?

The term Lassi refers to an Indian drink made with yogurt, milk, spices, herbs, salt, or sugar. There are different varieties of lassi and one with mango is one of the absolute treats, especially during summer.

This thick, creamy, and sweet drink is one of the Indian restaurant favorites of many. And yeah I am one among them too. The golden color refreshing drink flavored with cardamom and sweetened with sugar literally makes a perfect dessert after a festive meal or as just as a snack drink.

Even though the traditional drink is made with yogurt and milk, you can also make this vegan-friendly. Whipping the ingredients with your favorite almond or cashew yogurt delivers a super delicious vegan mango lassi.

    Ingredients

The ingredients that you will need to make this drink is minimal and let's see them below.

Mango Lassi ingredients placed on a table.
    Mango Lassi Ingredients
    • Ripe Mangoes - I have used champagne mangoes here and it tastes great with alphonso mangoes. Always choose ripe non-sour fruit to get best results. You could also use canned mango pulp if fresh fruits are not in season
    • Yogurt - I have used whole milk yogurt here but you can also use almond or cashew yogurt for making the drink vegan friendly
    • Cardamom Powder - It really gives an extraodinary flavor to this drink and some people also prefer to use rose essence instead, so feel free to use either rose essence or cardamom
    • Sugar - I have used brown sugar here, you could also use other sweetening agents as well

    How to make Mango Lassi?

To prepare the drink, wash and cut the ripe mangoes pulp into small chunks. You can also scoop out the pulp with a spoon. Now add the mango pulp, yogurt, water, sugar, and cardamom powder.

Now close the lid and process the mixture until it turns nice and smooth. Open the lid and pour the mango lassi into a glass and garnish with pistachio. I have also topped it with some rose petals which gives a nice visual treat and it is completely optional.

Reserve this delicious drink in the refrigerator for half an hour if you want to enjoy them chill or serve it immediately. You can also use frozen mango pulps while blending to enjoy the chill drink immediately.

    Tips

    • To make a perfect tasting mango lassi always make sure to use ripened fruit that gives a nice sweet flavor to the drink
    • You can also use canned ripe mangoes if fresh ones are not handy for you
    • Adding whole milk yogurt gives the best thick and creamy mango lassi similar to restaurant-style ones and you can also use greek yogurt instead. But make sure to add extra milk to thin out the lassi as the greek yogurts are very thick in consistency
    • To make vegan mango lassi, you can always feel free to add non-dairy milk and yogurt such as Almond Milk, Oat Milk, or cashew milk
    • I have flavored the lassi with cardamom powder and you can also use rose essence, or cinnamon powder, for more different tastes and flavor
    • I have garnished the mango lassi with pistachio and rose petals which give a visual treat to the lassi and it is totally optional

    Serving Suggestions

This mango lassi stays good for up to 2 days in the refrigerator. Always make sure to whisk before serving them to your loved ones.
