    What is Cold Brew Coffee?

Cold Brew Coffee is the process of steeping the fresh coffee ground in water at cold or room temperature for long hours. This process of making coffee is different from brewing them in hot water.

The coffee that is steeped for long hours in cold gives a stronger concentrate compared to other methods. And it also has higher caffeine which should be diluted with water before enjoying them. Even though they are rich in caffeine they are less acidic in nature which does not upset your tummy when taken frequently.

So let's check out how to make this drink easily at home in the below sections. And I have also shared the perfect coffee water ratio to make this drink crisp, bitter-less and that stays good for up to 1 week.

    Ingredients

Making Cold Brew Coffee does not need any fancy ingredients or equipment. The best part is any home cook can make this drink easily. So here is what you will need for this recipe.

Cold Brew Coffee ingredients on table.
    Cold Brew Coffee Ingredients
    • Whole Coffee Beans - I have used medium roasted coffee brands for this drink and you can use you favorite brands to achieve similar results
    • Filtered Water - Room temperture water

How to make Cold Brew Coffee?

Following are the high-level instructions to make this drink. But for simple and easy instructions with step-by-step photos, check out the recipe card below.

    Cold Brew Coffee
    • Make Coffee Grounds - In a blender jar add the coffee beans and blend it to coarse powder
    • Transfer to Pitcher - Now transfer the coarse coffee grounds to the pitcher
    • Add Water - Pour in the water and give a nice mix
    • Refigerate it - Now close the lid of the pitcher and refrigerate it for 16 to 18 hours
    • Filter the Coffee Concentrate - Filter the coffee concentrate with fine mesh strainer
    • Serve - Now fill the serving glass with ice cubes, ¼ cup water and then add ¼ cup coffee concentrate. Enjoy this refredhing drink as it is or you can also add milk or heavy cream and vanilla essence to relish a coffee shop style drink

    Tips

    • Coarse Coffee Powder - Grinding the coffee beans to a coarse powder helps to achieve a perfect drink when steeped in water
    • For Best Flavor and Taste - Brew the coffee grounds in the refrigerator for at least 16 to 18 hours which results in the best flavor and taste. Longer the coffee steeps you will get stronger flavor
    • Cold Brew Coffee Ratio - Here ¾ cup of coffee beans is used for 3 cups of water which makes the perfect ratio for this drink
    • Decaf Cold Brew - You can also use decaf coffee to make this drink to reduce the caffeine intake
    • French Press Version- I have used a glass pitcher to make this drink but you can also use a french press maker to achieve the similar results
    • Serving - The coffee concentrate is served over ice cubes and it can also be served along with heavy cream, milk, and vanilla essence

    Cold Brew Coffee Ratio

The perfect coffee water ratio for this drink is ¼ cup Coffee Beans for 1 cup water. Here I have used 3 cups of water and so I have taken ¾ cup of Coffee beans. In other words, you will need 1 ounce of coffee beans for every cup of water.

This ratio will deliver the best cold brew which will produce roughly 2½ to 2 ¾ cups of concentrate after it is soaked and steeped.

    • Reduce the risk of heart disease
    • Boost your metabolism
    • Lift your mood
    • Less acidic and good to your tummy(Source: Healthline)

    Iced Coffee Vs Cold Brew

In Iced Coffee, the coffee powder is usually brewed in hot water and then chilled or brought to room temperature then served over ice cubes. But in cold brew, the coarsely ground coffee is steeped in water for at least 16 to 18 hours which gives a crisp, bitter-less, and refreshing drink. It is stronger and has high caffeine content compared to iced coffee.

    Storage Suggestions

This drink stays good for up to 1 week in the refrigerator and achieves a great flavor and mildly sweet taste when it gets old.

    Serving Suggestions

This coffee is usually served over ice after the concentrate is diluted with water. It can be relished as it is or you can also pour half n half, heavy cream or milk to enjoy a coffee shop-style drink.
