    Instructions

    Making Iced Tea

    • Start by pouring water into a saucepan and bringing it to a rolling boil to ensure it's hot enough to properly brew the tea.
      Water boiling in a saucepan.
    • Gently add your choice of black tea powder or place tea bags into the boiling water, allowing them to brew for 5 minutes to extract the full depth of flavor without introducing bitterness.

    • Once the brewing time is complete, turn off the heat. Cover the saucepan with its lid, creating an ideal steeping environment for the tea to infuse for 3 more minutes, enhancing its richness and aroma.

    • Carefully remove the lid. If you used tea powder, pour the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher to ensure a smooth, sediment-free drink. If you used tea bags, simply take them out and dispose of them.

    • To the strained tea in the pitcher, add cold, fresh water. This not only dilutes the tea to the perfect drinking strength but also begins the cooling process.

    • Secure the lid on the pitcher and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours. This chilling period allows the tea to fully cool and develop a crisp, refreshing taste, making it the ideal thirst quencher.

    Chef's Notes and Tips

To perfect your iced tea, follow these helpful tips:
    • Brewing Excellence: Achieve a rich flavor by boiling your tea (powder or bags) in hot water. Limit the boiling to under 5 minutes to avoid bitterness.
    • Optimal Dilution: For a crisp, smooth finish, dilute the concentrated brew with cold water. This step is crucial for achieving the ideal balance between strength and refreshment.
    • Enhanced Chilling: A minimum of 2 hours in the fridge brings out the tea's depth of flavor. For an even more pronounced taste, allow it to chill longer; this is especially beneficial for bulk batches meant to last the week.
    • Custom Sweetness: Tailor your iced tea with sweeteners according to preference. This flexibility lets you adjust the sweetness to your liking.
    • Diverse Flavors: Don't hesitate to explore various black tea varieties. Each type brings its unique flavor and strength, allowing you to discover your ideal match.
    • Aromatic Touch: Enhance your tea with aromatic herbs like mint or basil during brewing, or opt for a natural sweetness by adding fruit slices as the tea cools.
