Ingredients and Substitutions Overview
To make a Shirley Temple Drink, you'll need just a few basic ingredients that you can easily find at your local supermarket. Here's what you'll need:
- Grenadine Syrup: This vibrant, ruby-red syrup, made from pomegranate juice and sugar, adds sweetness and a beautiful pink color to your drink. For a twist or in a pinch, you can substitute grenadine with pomegranate, cranberry, or cherry juice to achieve a similar color and flavor profile.
- Lemon-Lime Soda: My go-to choices are Sprite or 7UP, as they infuse the mocktail with a lively citrus zing and those delightful bubbles.
- Ginger Ale: I love the gentle warmth ginger ale brings to the mix. It balances the sweet with just the right amount of spice.
- Maraschino Cherries: A Shirley Temple just isn't complete without that cheerful cherry on top. It's the sweet little finish that makes each sip special.
- Ice Cubes: Go generous with the ice to keep your Shirley Temple chilled and refreshing. Just be mindful to balance it out so the flavors remain vibrant and undiluted.

Chef's Notes and Tips
- Ratio: For a Shirley Temple Drink, use a ratio of 1 part Grenadine Syrup to 4 parts Ginger Ale and 2 parts Lemon-Lime Soda. Alternatively, you can mix 1 part Grenadine Syrup with 6 parts of either Ginger Ale or Lemon-Lime Soda alone.
- Chill Your Ingredients: Make sure your soda and ginger ale are chilled before mixing. This keeps your drink cool and fizzy without needing too much ice, which can dilute the flavors.
- Adjust Sweetness: If you find the drink too sweet, you can slightly reduce the amount of grenadine syrup or add a bit more soda to balance it out. Taste as you go to get it just right.
- Serving Glass: Use a tall glass for the best presentation. It not only looks great but also gives you enough room for the right mix of ingredients and ice.
- Stir Gently: After adding all your ingredients, give the drink a gentle stir. This helps to mix everything evenly without losing too much carbonation.
- Experiment with Garnishes: Besides maraschino cherries, consider adding a slice of orange or a twist of lemon for an extra touch of flair and flavor.

Hello!
What exactly is lemon lime soda? It seems you are trying to hide the brand name. What are you afraid of? I have no idea what to buy in this regard. Any help is appreciated!

Hi Michael,
Thanks for reaching out to me and I appreciate your feedback. Lemon lime soda is nothing but carbonated, colorless soft drinks with lemon and lime flavoring such as Sprite or 7UP. Like I mentioned in the ingredients section, I have diluted Lime concentrate with plain Soda as the lemon lime soda was not handy to me. But I understand your concern that it was not clearly represented on the picture nor the text and I will take care of it. And no, I am not afraid of anything 🙂 It is just that I don't want to promote brands to the user as they may prefer different brand or don't like promoting brands at all. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
