    • Turmeric: I love using fresh turmeric for its incredible health benefits. If you can't find it fresh, don't worry, a teaspoon of organic turmeric powder is a great stand-in for a tablespoon of the fresh root.
    • Ginger: This is my secret for adding a bit of spice and warmth. It's amazing for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory powers.
    • Orange and Lemon Juice: I squeeze these in for a sweet and tangy kick that really brightens up the shots.
    • Black Pepper: Just a pinch works wonders for making sure your body absorb turmeric's curcumin and gets the most out of it.
    • Honey or Maple Syrup: Totally optional, but if you're like me and have a sweet tooth, a little drizzle can really make these shots a treat.

    Making Turmeric Shots

    • Start by thoroughly washing the turmeric knobs under running water, then pat them dry. Chop them into small bits and set aside for later.
      Chopping the fresh turmeric.
    • Next, take the oranges, slice them in half, and use a handheld juicer to squeeze out the juice. Keep this juice aside for later. While I prefer fresh oranges for their natural taste, feel free to use unsweetened, 100% real orange juice if that's what you have on hand.
Squeezing the oranges to extract juice.
    • Do the same with the lemons—cut them in half and squeeze out their juice.
      Squeezing lemon juice.
    • It's blending time! In your blender jar, combine the chopped turmeric, ginger, the freshly squeezed lemon and orange juice, and water.
Adding orange juice into a blender.
    • Secure the lid on your blender and blitz the mixture until it's completely smooth.
Blended turmeric mixture in a jar.
    • Once blended, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing well to get every last drop of your flavorful Turmeric Shot.
      Filtering the turmeric mixture.
    • Finally, pour your freshly made Turmeric Shot into a shot glass. If you like, sweeten it with a touch of honey or maple syrup to taste.

    • Serve this nourishing Turmeric Shot first thing in the morning to tap into its full detox and health benefits. For optimal results, it's recommended to enjoy 2 ounces or 60 ml of this healthful blend daily.

    Chef's Notes and Tips

To make the most of your Turmeric Shots, consider these handy tips:
    • Flavor: I use lemon and orange juice to soften the bold taste of turmeric. Feel free to experiment with pineapple juice or coconut water for a twist.
    • Strain for Smoothness: To ensure your shots are smooth and easy to drink, use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to filter out any bits of turmeric and ginger after blending.
    • Sweetness: Add your choice of honey, maple syrup, or another sweetener to find your perfect balance of sweetness.
    • Boost with Fats: For an extra health kick, mix in some healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, or even a bit of ghee.
    • Shake Before Use: If your turmeric shots separate while in storage, give them a good shake or stir before drinking to mix all the ingredients back together.
    • Temperature Tolerance: While these shots are traditionally consumed cold or at room temperature, you can gently warm them if you prefer a soothing, warm beverage—just don't boil it, as high heat can diminish some of the nutrients.

    Serving and Storage Suggestions

For the best experience with your Turmeric Shots, here are some serving and storage tips:

    • Best Time to Enjoy: Sipping this vibrant drink on an empty stomach in the morning helps you absorb all its benefits fully.
    • Daily Intake: Experts suggest that up to 2000 mg of curcumin per day is safe. Given these shots are diluted, a 2-ounce (60 ml) serving is a good daily measure.
    • Make It a Habit: Incorporating these shots into your daily routine can significantly amplify their health advantages.
    • Prep Ahead: Whip up a batch and keep it chilled in the fridge, using airtight containers or bottles to maintain freshness.
    • Fresh is Best: While it's ideal to drink these shots as soon as they're made, storing them in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days is perfectly fine if you need to make them ahead.

    Benefits of Turmeric Shots

Turmeric Shots are packed with an array of health benefits, making them a powerhouse for your well-being. According to research, including studies from NCBI, here's why you might want to make Turmeric Shots a part of your health routine:

    • Skin Health: They can be a natural remedy for skin concerns like acne, thanks to turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties.
    • Digestive Aid: Turmeric is known to soothe digestive issues and alleviate discomfort from pains and cramps.
    • Joint and Mood Support: The curcumin in turmeric is beneficial for managing arthritis, improving mood in depression, and may help with inflammatory bowel disease and Parkinson's. It's also being studied for its potential in certain types of cancer treatment.
    • Weight Management: Regular intake of these shots can assist in maintaining a healthy body weight and support weight loss efforts.
    • Liver Protection: Turmeric has properties that may protect against chronic liver damage, keeping your liver healthy and functioning properly.
    • Antimicrobial Effects: Its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties can help fend off disease-causing bacteria, boosting your overall immunity.

Note: While Turmeric Shots can offer numerous health benefits and are a fantastic choice for many, it's essential to consider personal health circumstances. If you have specific dietary needs or health concerns, consulting with a healthcare professional is wise to make sure it fits well with your individual health journey.
