    What is Pan Fried Salmon?

Pan-Fried Salmon is a crispy, juicy, and healthy seafood dish. It is usually made with skin-on or skinless salmon fillets, and basic seasoning powders. Pan frying the salmon is one of the easy, fast, and best ways to cook salmon. And it can be a perfect dish for a tiring weeknight dinner or on a regular day lunch and dinner.

As most of you know Salmon is a healthy, and protein-filled seafood that has a delicious flavor. It is also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acid that is good for cardiac health. When I think of making salmon recipes, making it on the stovetop is one of my go-to methods since it is faster than the oven or air frying methods. Not only that you can achieve a restaurant quality crispy skin and juicy interior.

Whether you are looking for healthy meal prep or preparing a delicious dinner for yourself, your family, or your guest, this dish never fails to impress anyone. And you can serve it with a simple salad, brown rice, or roasted vegetables. The best part is the leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. You can use it in your favorite salads, sandwiches, and stir fry dishes to make a delicious meal.

    Ingredients

The ingredients you will need to make this Pan Fried Salmon are simple. The seasoning used here is simple pantry elements that you might already have at home. So let's see what are they below.

Pan Fried Salmon recipe ingredients placed on a grey table.
    • Salmon Fillets - I have 4 skin-on salmon fillets that weigh approximately 6 oz and you can also feel free to use skinless fillets
    • Basic Seasoning - Salt, garlic powder, and black pepper powder for seasoning the salmon. But if you want some tangy, citrusy flavor feel free to add some lemon juice
    • Oil - Olive oil or any other cooking oil that's handy to you. For a richer taste, you could also use butter

How to cook or fry Salmon Fillets in the pan?

The recipe I have shared here is a healthy Pan-Fried Salmon made with basic seasoning ingredients. Following are the high-level instructions to make this recipe but for detailed step-by-step instructions with photos and video, please check out the recipe card below.

    • Prep Seasoning - In a bowl, add garlic, black pepper powder, and salt. Mix well and reserve it to season salmon
    • Oil Coat - In a tray, place salmon fillets one by one and rub each fillet with oil. I have used 1 tsp of oil to coat all 4 salmon fillets here
    • Season - Season the salmon with reserved spice powder. Make sure to rub the spice powder on all sides of the salmon fillet
    • Place Salmon fillet - In a pan with medium heat, pour the oil and place the salmon fillets facing skin side down
    • Fry - Press with a spatula and give slight pressure for 30 to 40 seconds on each fillet and cook for about 4 minutes. Pressing the salmon will help to achieve a crispy skin
    • Flip and Fry - Now flip the salmon to the other side and fry for another 2 to 3 minutes or until it turns golden in color
    • Remove - Remove the Pan Fried Salmon from the oil and it is now ready for you to taste and enjoy
    • Serve - Serve this healthy Pan Fried Salmon with rice, salads, or roasted vegetables like roasted asparagus, roasted green beans, roasted broccoli, or similar sides of your choice

    Tips

    • For Crispy skin - Pressing the salmon fillet facing skin side down firmly for about 40 to 30 seconds and frying on medium heat delivers a crispy skin
    • Nonstick pan - Using a good nonstick pan helps to achieve nonsticking skin and also helps to flip the fillets easily
    • Seasoning - I have used a simple seasoning powder like garlic and pepper powder for making this dish, but you can also use garlic butter sauce or honey garlic sauce I have used honey glazed salmon for a different flavor

How long to Pan fry Salmon?

Salmon fillets naturally take less time to cook for about 3 to 5 minutes in medium-high heat on one side. However, it may also depend on the thickness of the fillet you are using. Usually, for crispy skin, you should fry the salmon fillets for about 4 to 5 minutes facing skin-side down. Then flipped and cooked another side for about 3 minutes. I also recommend checking the internal temperature of the salmon using a thermometer. The safest internal temperature for consuming salmon recommended by USDA is 145 °F (62.8 °C)

Also, maintaining the temperature of the pan in medium-high heat is a key factor to avoid skin sticking to the pan. I suggest making this dish in a good quality nonstick pan to achieve the best results.
