Here I have made a separate Garlic Butter Sauce that is slightly spicy with a hint of Asian flavors. You can also make the sauce creamy by mixing in the flour while making the sauce. It is a worthy dish to try and the taste will make you enjoy it over and over again. The best part is all you need is under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
The ingredients you will need to make this Garlic Butter Chicken are basic and it should be easily found in most grocery stores around and some in Asian stores.
- Chicken Breast - I have used breast pieces but you can also use chicken thighs and wings to make this dish
- Butter and Olive Oil - I have used olive oil pan frying the chicken, and butter for making the sauce
- Hoisin and Soy Sauce - Both the ingredients are optional, but personally, I felt these sauces elevated the flavor and taste of the dish. So you can feel free to skip if you don't want an Asian flavor for this dish
- Spice Powders - I have paprika, chili flakes, and pepper powder in minimal amounts but you adjust the quantity according to the heat tolerance level
- Chicken Broth - Gives rich flavor and taste to the sauce
- Ginger Garlic Paste and Garlic - Ginger garlic paste usually helps to get to rid of the raw fragrance from the meat and enhance the taste while it is cooked. Let me know how it turns out if the paste is used in your recipe
How to make Garlic Butter Chicken?
The recipe I have shared here is prepared with chicken breast but you can also use chicken thighs. Even though I have a separate recipe for classic Garlic Butter Sauce in this blog, I have made a different version of it here that is slightly spicy. And I also added some hoisin and soy sauce to elevate the flavor. I also have a recipe for Garlic Butter that can be used in different dishes.
Following are the high-level instructions to make this recipe but for detailed step-by-step instructions with photos and video, please check out the recipe card below.
- Marinate the Chicken - Take chicken breast and pound it using a hammer or rolling pin. This help the chicken to cook evenly. You can slice the pieces in half or bite-size pieces. Marinate the pieces with paprika, ginger garlic paste, pepper powder, and salt
- Fry the chicken - Now in a pan with medium heat, pour olive oil and fry the chicken for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side. You can also flip and fry once again to achieve the golden brown color. Remove and reserve it for later use
- Making Sauce - In a pan with the remaining oil, add butter, and garlic and sauté it until it turns aromatic. Add in the chili flakes, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, lemon juice, and chicken broth and mix well
- Boil the Sauce - Allow the sauce to boil for 3 to minutes which helps it to absorb the flavors from the ingredients
- Add in the Chicken - Now add in the chicken and give a mix and coat it with the sauce
- Simmer and Cook - Simmer the heat and cook the chicken in sauce until it turns slightly thick
- Garnish and Serve - Garnish with a lot of coriander leaves and remove from heat. Now the juicy garlic butter chicken is ready for you to taste and enjoy
Tips
- For Juicy Chicken Breast - Always make sure to pound the chicken breast for evenness, season, and pan-fry them for a few minutes. This will help the chicken to stay tender without turning hard
- Garlic Butter Sauce - Even though I have made a slightly spicy Garlic Butter Sauce for this recipe, you can also use the classical Garlic Butter Sauce that is usually with less heat
- Sauces - I have used oyster sauce and soy sauce here which really enhance the flavor and taste of the sauce. But it is totally optional ingredient you can either use or skip it
- Lemon - I have used lemon juice here to achieve a zesty flavor to the dish and you can also use lemon zest
- Creaminess - You can also use 1 tsp of all-purpose flour while making the sauce to get a creamy garlic butter chicken
- Cooking Method - Even though I have prepared this dish on the stovetop, you can also bake it in the oven
- Herbs - I have used coriander or cilantro leaves here, but you can also use other herbs like parsley, oregano, thyme, and similar others
Storage Suggestions
This chicken dish stays good for a day in the refrigerator in an air-tight container. But I would recommend it consumed as fresh as possible to enjoy the fresh flavor and taste.

Garlic Butter Chicken
Ingredients
- 2 lb Chicken Breast, pounded and halved
- 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- Salt, as needed
- 1 tsp Paprika
- ½ tsp Pepper Powder
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 3 tsp Butter, salted
- 2 tsp Garlic, minced
- 2 tsp Lemon Juice
- ½ tsp Chili Flakes
- 1 tsp Hoisin, or oyster sauce, optional
- 1 tsp Soy Sauce, optional
- ½ cup Chicken Broth
- Coriander Leaves, to garnish
Instructions
To pan-fry the Chicken breast
- Place the pounded and sliced chicken breast in a wide tray and add paprika, ginger garlic paste, salt, and pepper powder. Mix all the ingredients until it coats well on each chicken breast piece
- Now in a pan with medium heat, pour olive oil and place the marinated chicken breast pieces one by one
- Fry the chicken pieces for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side or until it turns golden brown
- Remove the pan-fried chicken and reserve for later use
To make Garlic Butter Chicken
- In the same pan with the remaining oil, add butter and allow it to melt. Add the garlic and sauté until turns aromatic
- Now add chili flakes, hoisin or oyster sauce, soy sauce and mix well
- Add lemon juice and chicken broth and give it a good mix. Allow the mixture to boil for 4 to 5 minutes
- Now add the fried chicken breast pieces into the mixture and coat well with the sauce. Allow it to cook in low heat until the sauce turns slightly thick
- Finally, garnish with coriander leaves and remove it from heat. Now the delicious Garlic Butter Chicken is ready for you to taste and enjoy
To Serve
- Serve this juicy and tender Garlic Butter Chicken with white rice or brown rice
